James P. Clarke (composer)

James P. Clarke (1807/08–1877) was a Canadian composer. He was the first person to receive a bachelor's degree in music in North America. He is best known for his work ''Lays of the Maple Leaf'' (1853).
==Life==
Clarke was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and emigrated to Canada in 1835.
